I know this community is pretty dead, but I wanted to post this for those of you who will see this.

If you are planning on getting your(or your pet's!) hair cut please think about donating it towards helping clean the oil spill. Matter Of Trust will take all kinds of hair and put it in boons which in turn will soak up oil. This is their website:
http://www.matteroftrust.org/

They take ANY kind of hair, fur, wool, and even nylons! If anything can you pass this info on? It's such an easy way to help with the spill.

Jax Natural Foods Buying Club
Does anyone have any information (besides the website) about the Jax Natural Foods Buying Club? I came across their website yesterday and spent a bit of time reading about it, but would like to get some first-hand (or second-hand) info before I make the leap!

Used appliances
Hi everyone!

I'm looking for any place that sells used, repossessed, second hand or other types of cheap appliances, specifically refrigerators and washer/dryers. I've checked craigslist for individuals, but any warehouse type place where I can look at many at once would be preferred. Anything in Orange Park, Middleburg or the Westside is even better.

For any of you who went to Sandalwood
If you haven't heard coach Pat died on Sept 2nd. They are planning to have a memorial for him at Sandalwood's Gymnasium on Sept 19 at 11am. Its going to be in style of a pep rally. His mother requested it to be like that. If you knew him you'd understand this is how he would have wanted it to be. Coach Pat was and will always be a part of Sandalwood. The organizers of the memorial ask that if you do go, go in Sandalwood attire.

New to the area.
My girlfriend and I just moved into Jacksonville, we've been here about two weeks, and can't find a thing to do. Back in the Toledo/Detroit area, we were big into the club, rave, and dance scene, but we've never really been big bar-hoppers. Where are all the clubs at in Jax, and what music do they play? I can't find anything to do other than stand around drinking in sports bars, or walking around the mall all night. Any help out there?

Breast Cancer Fundraiser July 25, 2009 in Orange Park FL
My awesome coworkers have spent the last 2.5 months organizing a fundraiser for Breast Cancer research.  They did this all in secret and I only found out about it two weeks ago.  The event will be held this saturday, July 25 from 11-3pm at the Chik-Fil-a across from the Orange Park mall in Orange Park FL.  There will be a dunking booth, bouncy house, snow cones, arts and crafts, a car wash and much more.

Everyone is invited to come out and have some fun and help raise $ for the Donna Foundation.

Jacksonville Florida Networking

Jacksonville, Florida Networking

It’s not the easiest thing in the world. Networking. Definition of Networking is meeting up with others to promote your business to people who are not necessarily looking to use your business.   And make it worse with having a territory that is the largest city by land area.

How do you cover the territory like that?

You find meet up groups, go door to door even if they have a “no solicitation” sign in the door collecting business cards. Leaving flier or cards where you can post them in the weirdest places in hopes that someone will see it. And the worst of the worse, cold calling.

Each day I search through the web looking for another angle on how to introduce my business to other businesses. I find on line directories and use the list as I can.

I offer a place to describe your business and for others to search through our messages and database to see what you have to offer.   Once we hit a sufficient number of members’ activities will be posted.

Come and join the yahoo group and sign on to network one more way.

Doggie Domiciles?
We are seriously contemplating moving to the Jacksonville area around June of this year. We've looked online for apartments with some discouraging results. We have a sweet little adorable 4 year old rottweiler that is moving with us. She's AKC certified Canine Good Citizen and is a WONDERFUL (read: lazy) dog. The problem is that a lot of apartments won't rent to people with rotties because SOME people have given them bad reputations.
As citizens of Jax, I was wondering if you might toss some suggestions my way RE: apartments that may be rottie-friendly. I'd appreciate any tips!

Thanks in advance!!!!

COSPLAY
I'm a photographer doing a project on pop art and comic books. I'm looking for people that cosplay and have their own costumes to do a shoot. If we work together, you'll get digital copies of the work for yourself.
I am located in Daytona so willingness to travel some is a real plus for me. Please contact me here if you're interested.

Finding and posting about work in Jacksonville
I word for a new staffing agency here in Jacksonville.  Our goal is for weekly and temp to perm assignments.

First it's hard enough to be the new company in town, much less start when the economy is so rough.

We opened 6 weeks ago to take applications and the numbers have been staggering.

Our company is also introducing itself here in Jacksonville, and at the moment we have some great contracts in negotiation.

Some of the work that is coming up is more skilled than we have application already taken in.

We post at JaxBlueCollarConnection.com, this is a great place to find jobs and for companies to post positions at.

We also use Craigslist.

My Manager has a great relationship with the WorkSource Center.

other sites I have found to post openings is:

Kijiji
backpage.com
oodle.com
jacksonvillesuperads.com
jacksonville.yalwa.com

My question overall, is what over places are great to post (for free) for quick responses?  Other places on the web that people travel that are looking for positions.

We have some items that we need to post openings to that have skills that we have not seen come through our door.

Any Suggestions would be great.
